WHO CREATED GOD

Concerning God, the Creator, the Book of Job in the Bible rhetorically ask, thus:
"Can you search out the deep things of God? Can you find out the limits of the Almighty? They are higher than the heaven-what you can do? Deeper than Sheol-what can you know? Their measure is longer than the earth and broader than the sea." (Job 11:7-8, New King James Version).
Though many deep things about God cannot be completely understood and explained by our finite mind, there are things about Him that we can comprehend as they were revealed through the Holy Scriptures.
"The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law." (Deut. 29:29)
Hence, through the Bible, we learn for instance that God is omnipotent or Almighty (Gen. 35:11), omniscient or knows everything (I John 3:20), omnipresent or is everywhere (Eph. 4:6; Jer. 23:23-24). His ways are just (Ezek. 18:25), and nothing is impossible without Him (Luke 1:37, New International Version).
However, as to who created God and where He came from, the answer is no one and nowhere, for God is not created being but is a creator of all things (Isa. 64: 4,8; 45:18). God has no beginning and no end; He is eternal or everlasting:
"Before you created the hills or brought the world into being, you were eternally God, and will be God forever." Ps. 90:2, Today's English Version).
The eternal God, the Creator of all things, is the Father, as taught in the Old Testament (Mal. 2:10, New International Version) and the New Testament (John 17:1, 3, New King James Version).
The one true God is spirit (John 4:24), that is, without flesh and bones (Luke 24:38-39) and thus is invisible by nature (I Tim 1:17). Yet, we know and believe that God exist, as Apostle Paul pointed out:
"Ever since God created the world, his invisible qualities, both his eternal power and his divine nature, had been clearly seen, they are perceived in the things that God had made. So those people have no excuse at all!" (Rom. 1:20, Today's English Version).
In the things that God has made-among others, the heaven and the skies and everything in them (Ps. 19:1-4, New International Version) the beast, birds, and fish (Job 12:7-9), and the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind" (Job 12:10). God existence, eternal power, and nature are "clearly seen".

WE ARE ONE

'That they may be one just as We are One'

Regarding Joh 17:22 which many suppose that "the Father and the Son are one and the same", our Lord Jesus Christ, praying to the Father, simply said in the verse:
"And the glory which you gave me, I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one." (New King James Version)
The statement as you will see, does not in any way teach that Christ is Himself the Father and vice versa, as how others interpret the verse.
Verse 9 and 20 of that chapter inform us that Christ was then praying for the believers or true Christians:
"I pray for them, I do not pray for the world but for those whom You given Me, for they are Yours. ... I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word." (Ibid.)
As part of his prayer for the believers, Christ then said to God in verse 22, "that they may be one just as We are one."
First, if we were to accept the interpretation that Christ here was teaching that "He and the Father are one and the same," then we would also have to accept the absurd and unbiblical conclusion that Christ is praying that all Christians become one and the same when he said "that they may be one just as We are one."
Without isolating  the phrase, "We are one" in John 17:22 from its proper context, the message of Christ is very clear and does not result in any absurdity:
"My prayer for all of them is that they will be of one heart and mind, just as you are in me and I am in you, so they will be in us, and the world will believe you sent me. The glory which you have given Me I have given them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me." (John 17:22, Living Bible; 22-23, New American Standard Bible).
It is clear therefore that the "one-ness" being referred to by Christ in His prayer is neither His alleged being "one and the same" with God, nor His supposed being God also as the Father is, but His having "one heart and mind" with the Father or their "unity".
Furthermore, the teaching that Christ is also the Father creates forthright contradictions, just in the beginning of John 17, the Gospel records, thus:
"After Jesus had finished speaking to his disciples, he looked up toward heaven and prayed: Father, the time has come for you to bring glory to your Son, in order that he may bring glory in you.
"Eternal life is to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, the one you sent." (John 17: 1,3, Contemporary English Version).
Notice that Christ said, "Father, the time has come for you to bring glory to your Son." This statement of Christ clearly teaches that the Father to whom Christ was praying has a Son. Now, if Jesus were Himself the Father, then who would be the Son of Jesus to whom He would bring glory? It is therefore very clear that when Jesus looked up toward heaven and said, "Father," He was neither referring nor talking to Himself but to someone else-the Father who is the only true God.
Finally, to prove that He differs from God who is the Father, Christ said, "My Father is greater than I" (John 14:28, New King James Version). The phrase "greater than" obviously shows that two subjects distinct from each other are being compared, for it is absurd and illogical to say that one is greater than his own self. Indubitably therefore, Christ and God are not one and the same.

DIFFERENT BIBLE VERSION

Why use different Bible versions?

Using only one Bible version in both written and oral discourse seems practical and expedient. This should not pose any problem if and when those who translated the Bible in various languages are completely free of bias or are theologically neutral. Unfortunately, they are not. And this has resulted not only in differences in shades of meaning in some portions of the verse, but also in differences in interpretation of the entire passage:
“All translation involves interpretation. Interpretation, of course, involves the influence of theology; so all translation involves theology, …Translator cannot avoid totally the necessity of making the interpretive decisions, nor can they avoid completely the influence of personal views of truth on their work. Translation is not hermeneutically neutral and translators are not theologically neutral.” (Accuracy of Translation, p. 41)
For these reasons, there are times  when it is necessary to choose the version that is not only easier to comprehend, but most of all renders the precise meaning-thus, the need to use more than one version of the Bible.
How do we determine which particular version of the Bible to use! Apostle Paul taught the guiding principle when it comes to the teachings written in the Holy Scriptures:
“But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
“These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual” (I Cor. 2:10, 13, New King James Version).
Spiritual truths must be compared with spiritual truths, and in doing so, there must be no contradiction. Hence, if a term or phrase in a particular version contradicts the true doctrine, then there is an error in translation. Therefore, it behooves us to use a version that does not contradict the biblical truth.
However, an important thing must be understood when it comes to comparing spiritual truths with spiritual truths. A preacher of the gospel must be sent or duly commissioned by God for him to receive the Holy Spirit and be able to correctly compare spiritual truths with spiritual things. Hence, not everyone can rightfully explain the contents of the Bible. Apostle Paul said, “And how shall they preach unless they are sent?...” (Rom. 10:15, Ibid.)
John the Baptist also taught the importance of being sent by God:
“The one whom God has sent speaks God’s words, because God gives him the fullness of his Spirit.” (Jn. 3:34, Today’s English Version)
God gave the knowledge of His words only to His messengers. They are the ones entrusted with the ministry and the message of reconciliation (II Cor. 5:18-20), and thus they are the ones who can rightfully teach the contents of the Holy Scriptures. People should listen to their preaching to be able to know and understand the will of God expressed in His Holy Book.

WORSHIPPING CHRIST

Among the teachings of the Bible is the worship of Jesus Christ, not because Christ is God but because it is God's commandment that at the same name of Jesus "every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth...to the glory of the Father" (Phil. 2:10-11). Christ has been placed by God for above all principality, power, might, and dominion, and all things have been put under His feet (Eph. 1:21-22).
That Christ is not God, although men are commanded to worship Him, is further proven by the biblical teaching that He will be eventually subject all His power and authority to the Father who is the only true God.
"For the scripture says, 'God put all things under his feet'. It is clear, of course, that the words 'all things' do not include God himself, who puts all things under Christ. But when all things have been placed under Christ's rule, then he himself, the Son, will place himself under God, who placed all things under Him; and God will rule completely over all." (I Cor. 15:27-28, Today's English Version)

IMAGES, REMEMBERING THE LORD

Considering that many Catholics and Aglipayans believe that they do not worship the images of the so called saints, which are found in their chapels and homes, however what they perform before this images are indubitably acts of worship, in predominantly Catholic countries such as the Philippines, the devotees stage processions, light candles, and offer flowers in honor of this images and even hold or sponsor fiestas in every barangay, muncipalities, province and cities, in honor of their favorite patron saints. They carry them on their shoulders, kiss them, and bow down and pray before them, in observance of the teaching as taught in the Catholic cathecism:
       "Ought we worship holy images?
"We should have, particularly in our churches, images of our Lord, as also of Blessed Virgin and the saints, and we should pay them due honor and veneration. ...
"Is the worship of the saint confined to their persons?
"No, it extends also to their relics and images." (Catechism of Christian Doctrines, p. 87).
Note that Catholic authorities require Catholics not just to render "due honor" and veneration" to images but also to "worship" them. James Gibbons, a Catholic Cardinal, confirm this further, thus:
"... the act which is called worship of an image is really the worship of Christ Himself, through and in the presence of the image and by occasion of it, ..." (The Faith of Our Fathers, pp. 164-165).
But the Holy Scriptures, on the other hand, has these pronouncements regarding image-worship:
"What profit is the image, that its maker should carve it, The molded image, a teacher of lies, That the maker of its mold should trust in it. To make mute idols? Woe to him who says to wood, 'Awake!' To silent stone, 'Arise! It shall teach!' Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet in it there is no breath at all." (Heb. 2:18-19, New King James Version).
"And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image like corruptible man-and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore, God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lust of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshipped and serve the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever, Amen." (Rom. 1:23-25, Ibid).
It is for this reason that we are against the teaching and practice of worhipping images. By quoting verse of the Bible to show that such practice is a violation of God's commandment, we also expound the right manner of worshipping God as taught by our lord Jesus Christ.
"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth." (John 4:23-24, New International Version).
Worshipping God in spirit is by worshipping His name, and worshipping God in truth is by obeying-not going against-His will. (Matt. 6:9-10).

PSYCHICS AND FORTUNE-TELLERS

The Bible mentions of psychics, fortune-tellers, and astrologers; however, it prohibits the practice of such people. God Himself said:
"... Do not practice fortune-telling or witchcraft, ...Do not rely on mediums  and psychics, for you will be defiled by them, I the LORD, am your God." (Lev. 19:26, 31, New Living Translation)
Some people might have had experiences wherein the prediction of the psychic they consulted or sought for advice came true. So some make mistake of believing in such people, and even putting their trust in them.Yes, even if the predictions of seers, psychics, fortune-tellers, and astrologers would come true, we should not be swayed into believing in them. The Bible gives this warning:
"If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a miraculous sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder of which he has spoken takes place, and he says, "Let us follow other gods' (god you have not known) 'and let us worship them;, you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul". (Dt. 13:1-3, New International Version)
We should not allow ourselves to be deceived by the predictions of fortune-tellers and astrologers. Should they encourage us to serve other gods, the Bible explicitly says: "you must not listen to the words of that prophet" even "if the sign or wonder of which he has spoken takes place." We should remember that the devils himself can perform miraculous acts that can deceive people (II Thess. 2:9-10).
The Bible tells the catastrophic end of astrologers and their kind:
" ...Let your astrologers come forward and save you-those people who study the stars, who map out the zones, and a fire will burn them up! They will not even be able to save themselves." (Is. 47:13-14, Today's English Version).
So, instead of believing in these people, we should turn to God for guidance and  answers to life questions. God alone truly knows what the future holds:
"...I am God, and there is none else like me. Only I can tell you what is going to happen even before it happens." (Is. 46:9-10, New Living Translation.)
It is God who knows what is best for us: therefore we should seek his will, obey His instructions, and trust in Him with all our hearts (Prov. 3:1, 5:6).

Spirit Guides and Channeling

During the time of ancient Israel, the penalty for those who acted mediums and psychics was death:
"Men and women among you who act as mediums or psychics must be put to death by stoning. They are guilty of capital offense." (Lev. 20:27, New Living Translation)
The Bible is against such practices because these  are the works of the devil. Psychics, fortune-tellers, and the like see to possess extraordinary powers only because they are possessed by demons:
"One day as we were going down to the place of prayer, we met a demon-possessed slave girl. She was a fortune-teller who earned a lot of money for her master. She followed along behind us shouting, 'these men are servants of the Most High God, and they have come to tell you how to be saved'. This went on day after day until Paul got so exasperated that he turned and spoke to the demon within her. 'I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her', he said. And instantly it left her. Her masters' hopes of wealth are now shattered." (Acts 16:16-19, Ibid.)
Clearly, the slave girl was able to perform her fortune-telling only when the demon or evil spirit possessed her. When it left, so did her ability to divine. Let us not forget that Satan and his agent like the demons can perform counterfeit signs and miracles (II Thess. 2:9-11). These demons are the angels who were also banished to earth along with the devil who deceives the whole world. (Rev. 12:9)
Spirit guides or channelers are just modern terms used by the New Age Movement to describe demon possession. Those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God:
"When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, your lives will produce these evil results; sexual immorality, impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, idolatry, participation in demonic activities, ...Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living in that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God." (Gal. 5:19-21, New Living Translation ).

BLOOD TRANSFUSION, BIRTHDAYS, FLAGS

What the Almighty has prohibited since the time of Noah is the eating of blood of animals (Gen. 9:1-4; Lev. 17:12-13; Acts 21:25). This prohibition by God can not be used as a basis for forbidding medical practice called blood transfusion, for "eating blood" is obviously different from "transfusing blood."
And there is nothing wrong with celebrating birthdays if it is done for the glory of God: "Therefore, whether you eat, drink, or whatever you do all to the glory of God." (I Cor. 10:31, New King James Version)
To regard our birthday as God's blessing and to thank Him during this occasion for the good things that we have receive from Him throughout the year that has passed is never wrong. In fact, The Holy Scriptures teach us to be thankful in everything.
"In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Jesus Christ for you." (I Thess. 5:18, Ibid.)
Apostle Paul, however, admonishes Christians to get away from revelries and drunkenness because these are the works of the flesh and those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God (Gal.l: 5:13, Ibid.)
Concerning the use of flag, verses of the Bible shows the Lord does not prohibit it: "May there be shouts of joy when we hear the news of your victory, flag flying with praise to God for all that he has done for you. May he answer all your prayers!" (Ps. 20:5, Living Bible)
The Holy Book even proves that God Himself instructed the ancient Israelites to use flags:
"... The Lord issued the following instructions to Moses, ... 'Take a census of all the men twenty years old and older who are able to go to war, including their tribe and family. You and Aaron are to direct the project assisted by leaders from each tribe, ...Each tribe of Israel shall have a separate area with its own flag'." (Num. 1:1-2, 52, Ibid.)
Paying respect to a flag by saluting to it for instance or by standing at attention when it is being raised is but gesture of nationalism. It is a form of respect and not of religious worship or adoration. Respecting something does not necessarily worship them.

ON INFANT BAPTISM, DONATION OF BODY PARTS

On Infant Baptism

Receiving baptism is necessary for us to attain salvation. But there are several steps that must be done before a person is baptized. The Lord Jesus Christ teaches that prior to baptism, one must first be taught the gospel and believe in it.  "And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned."(Mk. 16:15-16, New King James Version)
Besides listening and hearing the gospel or the fundamental doctrines of the Bible, he is also expected to repent for his sins. "Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38, Ibid.). The Bible defines sin as the transgression of the law. "Whoever sins is guilty of breaking God's law, because sin is a breaking of the law. (I Jn. 3:4, Today's English Version)
An infant is not yet capable of understanding and believing in the gospel. Neither could he repent since he has not yet committed any sin. Thus, a child should not be baptized because he is not yet capable of complying with the requisites for baptism. So what must be done? The Lord Jesus Christ laid his hands on them to God:
"Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.' And He laid His hands on them and departed from there."(Mt. 19:13-15, New King James Version)
The infants are dedicated to the service of the Lord in the Church of Christ during worship services officiated by a minister. But as the child grows older or reaches the age when he can already decide, he must also comply with the necessary requirements to receive baptism.

Body Parts

With regards to donation of organs or body parts for research or to save lives, we ought to be guided by the teaching of Christ on the principle of sacrificing oneself for the sake of others. He said:
"Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends." (Jn. 15:13, New King James Version).
If a love one is in need of a kidney transplant, and the only one able to donate the needed organ is a close relative with similar genetics, for example a sibling, then more often than not, the close relative would gladly donate his body parts. It is acceptable for a living person to donate his body parts to save another's life, then much more can the dying decide so since when he dies, he would have no more need of his body parts.
When Christ was asked which the greatest commandment is He answered:
"Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"(Mt. 22:37-39, Ibid.)
Being a donor of body parts upon death so that others may live is a gesture of love for one's neighbor. For this reason, there is nothing wrong with donating wrong with donating body parts if one chooses to.

ANOINTING OF OIL

The practice of anointing the sick with oil is in accordance with the teachings of God preached by the apostles: "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven." (Js. 5:14-15, New King James Version)
It is important to bear in mind that it is not the oil which will cure the sick. Instead, Apostle James declared, "the prayer of faith will save the sick." And as our Lord Jesus Christ once taught, faith can move mountains (Mt. 17:20). Thus, whatever sickness or disease a person is afflicted with, if he believes that he will be cured from his sickness, then he would be healed:
"Praise the LORD, my soul, and do not forget how kind he is. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases." (Ps. 103:2-3, Today's English Version)
We are not against physicians or anyone consulting a physician, whether it is before or after the anointing of oil, for that matter. In fact, our Lord Jesus Christ stated, thus:
"When Jesus heard this, he told them, 'Healthy people don't need a doctor - sick people do.'.. (Mk. 2:17, New Living Translation)
We encourage every true Christians, to always consult a physician with matters concerning health and nutrition. However, we should not follow the example of King Asa. When he became sick, he depended solely on the help of the physicians and neglected to seek help of the Lord (II Chron. 16:12). We believe that physicians are instrument of God, the ultimate healer.

HOW CAN CHRIST BE A MAN?

Regarding this question, let us begin with the declaration of Christ regarding His state of being:
"But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this." (Jn. 8:40, New King James Version)
Christ said that He is a man. This is equivalent to saying that He is not God because God is not a man and man is not God.
"I will not execute the fierceness of My anger; I will not again destroy Ephraim. For I am God, and not man, The Holy One in your midst; And I will not come with terror. (Hos.11:9, Ibid.)
"Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Because your heart is lifted up, And you say, 'I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, In the midst of the seas,' Yet you are a man, and not a god, Though you set your heart as the heart of a god." (Ezek: 28:2, Ibid.)
The apostles also testified that Jesus Christ is a man:
"Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know." (Acts 2:28, Ibid.)
"For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus." (I Tim. 2:5, Ibid.)
What might have confused others is the truth that Christ's conception is unlike that of an ordinary human being. An ordinary human being is created by God through the sexual union of husband and wife with the collaboration of God who forms a child in the womb of his mother:
"This is what the LORD says-your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb: ..."(Is. 244:24, New International Version)
Though Christ was formed in Mary's womb, his conception, however, was not through the natural process of procreation, which is through the sexual union of husband and wife, but through the Holy Spirit:
"This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit." (Mt. 1:18, Ibid.)
What was conceived on Mary's womb was a child not God, for God is neither man nor the son of man, "God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind." (Num. 23:19, Ibid.)
The fact that Christ was conceived or was created proves that He is not God since nobody created God. He is the creator of the universe and everything in it including man (Mal. 2:10; I Cor.8:5).
The fact that Christ was conceived in a manner different from that ordinary human beings does not prove that He is God. Adam and Eve were also created by God in unique ways. Adam was formed out of the dust of the ground (Gen. 2:7) while Eve was created out of Adam's rib (Gen. 2:21-23). But we know that Adam and Eve are not gods even though they differ from ordinary human beings in regard to the manner by which God created them. Thus, though Christ was created through the power of the Holy Spirit, He is still is man and not God.

Christ is not man?

The Bible is full of proofs that Christ is a man. To say that He is not a Man would present numerous contradictions in the Bible. Christ Himself taught His state of being. In John 8:40, this is His testimony:
"But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this." (New King James Version)
Apostle Paul also proves that Christ is truly a man or truly human. He says:
"There is only one God, and Christ Jesus is the only one who can bring us to God. Jesus was truly human, and he gave himself to rescue all of us." (I Tim. 2:5, Contemporary English Version)
Even in the prophetic era, Prophet Isaiah spoke of Jesus state of being, he said:
"He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him." (Is. 53:3, New King James Version)
And now that Christ is in heaven, the Bible clearly states:
"Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand,  Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself." (Ps. 80:17, Ibid.)
"If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. "Col. 3:1, Ibid.)
The preacher that you watched on TV is wrong in claiming that Christ is not man. His line of argument shows his lack of knowledge and understanding concerning biblical truths. We should bear in mind that Christ was without sin not because He is not man, nor is it because He is God, but because the true God, the Father in Heaven, sanctified Christ to be without sin:
"Do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? (Jn. 10:36, Ibid.)
We should avoid listening to preachers who teach the kind of Jesus that's different from the Jesus taught by the messenger of God. Instead we should believe the teachings of Christ Himself that He is a man sent by God to tell us the truth. (Jn. 8:40).

CONFESS WITH MOUTH....SAVED?

There is no question that Romans 10:9-11 underscores the importance of having faith in our Lord Jesus Christ  and confessing Him with our mouth to receive His gift of salvation. In fact, not only that "God has raised Jesus from the dead." But also that anyone who does not believe in Christ is "condemned already." (John 3:18). However, we wish to emphasize that true faith in Christ, entails much more than just confessing Him with our mouths:
"So Jesus said to those who believe in Him, "If you obey my teaching, you are already my disciples." (John 3:31, Today's English Version).
True faith is not just a matter of believing but of obeying as well. It is no wonder therefore that the futility of merely professing to have faith was clarified by Christ apostles. This is what Apostles James emphasized when  he wrote:
"What it is good my brothers, If someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? ... See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone." (James 2:14, 24, New American Bible).
One's so called faith without actions or deeds is dead (James 2:17). For, even the demons believe and even tremble with fear (James 2:19) - but surely, they will not be saved.
Regarding Romans 10:9-11, verse 17 of that same chapter explains how one obtains faith:
"So then faith comes by hearing, and by hearing by the words of God." (New King James Version)
Faith, which is certainly necessary for salvation, can be obtained through hearing or receiving the words of God or the Gospel. But, do listening to the Gospel and having faith suffice for one to be entitled for salvation? Notice that Savior Himself expects of us, aside from receiving the Gospel and possessing faith, in order to be saved:
"And He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned'." (Mark 16:15-15, Ibid.)
"Receiving the baptism taught by Christ is therefore also necessary for people to be saved. Those who have received this baptism, the Bible teaches, are found in "one body" (I Cor. 12:13), which is the "church" headed by Christ. (Co. 1:18). This Church is none other than the Church of Christ which the Savior purchased with His precious blood:
"Take heed therefore to yourselves and to all the flock over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you overseers, to feed the church of Christ which he has purchased with his blood." (Acts 20:28, Lamsa Translation).
Hence, confirming the indispensability of membership in the true Church for people to be saved, which also disproves the widespread belief that faith alone guarantees us of salvation, the Holy Scriptures further states:
"For a husband has authority over his wife just as Christ has authority over the church and Christ is himself the Savior of his body." (Eph. 5:23, Today's English Version).
"...And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." (Acts 2:47, King James Version).

THE HOLY SPIRIT

"Mystified by the Holy Spirit "

What is the Holy Spirit? We give as an answer the promise made by our Lord Jesus Christ to His believers:
"But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all the things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatever I have said to you." (John 14:26, New King James Version)
Christ promised that God would send the Holy Spirit as the Comforter of His people. Christ also said that He Himself would send the Holy Spirit which is also called the Helper and the Spirit of truth (John 15:26).
Being sent by God and Christ, the Holy Spirit cannot be God, as what the Trinity doctrine stipulates, for the one who is not greater that the one who sent him (John 18:16).
The Holy Spirit is also described in the Bible as the power of God (Acts 1:18) that He sends to help us in our weaknesses and infirmities (Rom. 8:26) and to strengthen us so that we can withstand our many trials in life and still remain rooted in our faith:
"I ask God from the wealth of his glory to give you  power through his Spirit to be strong in your inner selves, and I pray that Christ will make his home in your hearts through faith. I pray that you may have your roots and foundation in love, so that you, together with all God's people, may have power to understand how broad and long, how high and deep, Christ's love." (Eph. 3:16-18, Today's English Version).
This prayer of Apostle Paul, especially its last few lines, is also our prayer for you and for all others who seek truth that leads to salvation.

BY CHRIST ALL THINGS WERE CREATED?

Collosians 1:16 states, thus:
"For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him." (New King James Version)
Perhaps, what makes other think that the verse teaches "Christ created the world" is the part which states "by Him all things were created". Notice nevertheless that just before the statement, the Bible states, "He (Christ) is - the firstborn over all creation" (Col. 2:15, Ibid.), which clearly indicates that Christ is one of those which were created and therefore not Himself the Creator.
The Bible unequivocally informs us who the one and only Creator is, Isaiah 44:24 records, thus:
"Thus say the Lord, your Redeemer, and He who formed you from the wombs: I am the Lord, who makes all things, Who stretches out the heaven all alone, who spreads abroad the earth by Myself". (Ibid.)
The "Lord" and "Redeemer" who made everything "all alone" and "by Himself" was further identified by the prophet Isaiah:
"Doubtless You are our Father - You, O Lord are our Father; our Redeemer from Everlasting is Your name". (Isa. 63:16)
Hence, as the prophet Malachi rhetorically asks, "Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us?" (Mal. 2:10, Ibid.). Clearly therefore, the one God who "created the world" as taught by the Bible is not Christ, but His Father who is the only true God (John 17:1,3).
So, why then does Colossians 1:16 state that "by Him (Christ) all things were created"? That very verse itself provides the answer-the last part of it explains, "All things were created through Him (Christ)," Remember that one meaning of term "by" is the word "through" and thus the two are synonyms (Microsoft Encarta 2006 Dictionary Tools). But then again, in what sense "where all things created through Christ"? The explanation is again found in that very same verse which continuous, "All things were created through Him and for Him." That all things were created for Jesus is further explained by Apostle Paul who himself wrote Colossians 1:15, He pronounced:
"God did what he had purposed, and made known to us the secret plan he had already decided to complete by means of Christ. This plan, which God will complete when the time is right, is to bring all creation together, everything in heaven and on earth, with Christ as head. All things are done according to God's plan and decision ... based on what he had decided from the very beginning." (Eph. 1:9-11, Today's English Version).
Notice that "from the very beginning", it had been the "secret plan" of God that "when the time is right" He will "bring all creation together, everything in heaven and on earth, with Christ as head." It is in this sense that God created everything for Jesus.
It is clear therefore that all things were created "by Christ" not in the sense that He is Himself the Creator, but in the sense that all were created by the Father through and for Him (Christ). Hence, other translations of the Bible such the Today's English Version, Colossians 1:16 is rendered in this manner:
"For through him God created everything in heaven and on earth ... God created the whole universe through him and for him."

CHRIST, ALPHA AND OMEGA

Jesus Christ is called "Alpha and Omega", "Lord of Lords" and "King of Kings" like the Father is indeed used by some theologians, especially the Trinitarians, as basis for their belief that Christ is also God. In subscribing to this line of reasoning, however, Trinitarians would have to explain why the Holy Spirit, which they believe to be a co-equal God of the Father and the Son in power, honor, is not called such titles. Moreover, if being called by the same time makes two or more persons share the same state of being, then, Peter would qualify to be God in the same way as Christ is claimed to be God, for Peter has the same title "Cephas" or "stone" (John 2:35-42) as Christ (Acts 4:10-11). Not only that, this line of thinking would also make all Christians God for they too are called in the Bible as "living stones" (I Peter 2:4-5).
Others might retort that Christ's being  "stone" is different from that of Peter and other Christians. That is correct, and that is precisely the point why Christ could not be God just because He is called by the same titles as God "Alpha and Omega", "Lord of Lords", and King of Kings".
"Alpha and Omega", the first and the last letters of the Greek alphabet, signify "first and last". Such titles are used both of God and Jesus Christ, in distinct and dissimilar senses that they are such called.
The Lord God is "Alpha" because all things came from Him (I Cor. 8:5). He is "Omega" since He set the day of Judgment (Acts 17:31; I Cor. 15:28) or the "end of the age" (Matt. 24:3).
On the other hand, Christ is "Alpha" because He is the "first born of every creature" (Col. 1:15, King James Version), for He was already "foreknown" or in the mind of God even "before the foundation of the world" (I Pet. 1:20, Douay-Confraternity Version). He is "Omega" because it is through Him that God will judge the world on Judgment Day (II Cor. 5:10).
Why is Christ called "Lord of Lords" and "King of Kings"? The Bible explains that when the end comes, Christ will definitely "reign" as He will "put an end to all rule, authority, and power":
"Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, whom He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet." (I Cor. 15:24-25), New King James Version).
To illustrate that Christ's "Lordship" and Kingship" are subordinate to God and are thus unlike that of God who is the Father, the Bible continues, thus:
"For the scripture says, 'God put all things under his feet'. It is clear, of course, that the words 'all things' do not include God himself, who puts all things under Christ. But when all things have been placed under Christ's rule then he himself, the Son, will place himself under God, who placed all things under him; and God will rule completely over all," (I Cor. 15: 27-28, Today's English Version).
Therefore, inasmuch as the use of "Alpha and Omega", "Lords of Lord", and "King of Kings" for God and for Christ differ in meaning and in sense, to argue that Christ is God because He (Christ) holds such titles is to offer a false argument and an erroneous form of reasoning which logicians call "fallacy of equivocation".

CHRIST, NOT CONCEIVED IN HUMAN WAY

If we accept the belief that Christ is not a man because He was conceived differently from how ordinary human is being conceived, then we would have to accept that Adam and Eve are also not human beings, for they came to be not through procreation or sexual reproduction.
The first man, Adam, was created out of dust (Gen. 2:7), the first woman, Eve, from the rib of the first man (Gen. 2:21-23).
When we say that Christ is "purely human" we do not in any way mean that He is "without spirit". Man according to Apostle Paul, is composed of "spirit, soul and body" (I Thess. 5:23). By the phrase "purely human", we mean that Jesus Christ does not have dual nature-that of a man and that of God. The Bible clearly teaches that man is not God (Ezek. 28:2) and God is not man (Hos. 11:9). Christ declared that He is a man (John 8:40), therefore He is not God.
Thus, although our Lord Jesus Christ was born out of extraordinary circumstances, the truth remains that He was conceived and created, thus He is not God but man.

GOD SAID, 'YOU ARE GODS'

Let us first quote in full John 10:34-35 from the Today's English Version, otherwise known as the Good News Bible.
"Jesus answered, "It is written in your Law that God said, 'You are gods'." We know that what the Scripture says is true forever; and God called those people gods, the people to whom his message was given."
This pronouncement that was made by our Lord Jesus Christ before the Pharisees who questioned His words is an allusion to some verses in Old Testament, Psalm 82:1 and 6, which reads:
"God stands in the congregation of the mighty; He judges among the gods. ...i said, 'You are gods, And all of you are the children of the Most High". (New King James Version)
The word "gods" in these verses was used metaphorically of those whom God had placed as judges in the nation of Israel. This is similar to what is written in Exodus 21:6. The Amplified Bible renders it, thus:
"Then his master shall bring him to God [the judges as His agents]; he shall bring him to the door or doorpost and shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him for life."
Another proof that those referred to as "gods" in Psalm 82:1 and 6 are  not of the same nature as the God Almighty is that were to die like "mere men":
"How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked? ...
"But you will die like mere men; you will fall like every other ruler." (Ps. 82:2,7, New International Version)
Going back to John 10:34-35, our Lord Jesus Christ alluded to Psalms 82:1 and 6 in order to stress a point to the Pharisees who took offense at His statement that He is the Son of God. In the succeeding verse, John 10:36, Christ was pointing out to His detractors that if they were to accept that those from whom God's word came are called "gods" then why should they accuse Christ of blaspheming when He introduced Himself as the Son of God:
"As for me, the Father chose me and sent me into the world. How, then, can you say that I blaspheme because I said that I am the Son of God?" (Today's English Version
But, even as there really are "so-called gods" as mentioned in the Bible, this should not lead us to believe in and worship other gods aside from the only true God, the Father, as stated by Apostle Paul:
"Even if there are so-called 'gods', whether in heaven or on earth, and even though there are many of these 'gods' and 'lords', yet there is for us only one God, the Father, who is the Creator of all things and for whom we live..." (I Cor. 8:5-6, Ibid.)
The belief that there is more than one God other than the Father is erroneous and is biblically untenable.  The Lord Jesus Christ Himself made it quite clear when He declared that the Father is the only true God:
"After Jesus finished saying this, he looked up to heaven and said, 'Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your Son, so that the Son may give glory to you, ...And eternal life means to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, whom you sent." (John 17:1,3, Ibid.)
It is important for one to have the right knowledge about God. According to Jesus Christ, to know and believe that the Father is the only true God and to know Jesus Christ whom He sent is to gain eternal life.

PRE-EXISTENCE, INCARNATION, DIVINITY

What is spoken of in John 1:1, 14 as being with God in the beginning is the "Word." Hence, in order to understand the real message of John 1:1, 14, we should first clarify the meaning of the term "Word". Does it really refer to a 'pre-existence' as other allege? No. The Holy Scripture prove instead that the "Word" refers to God's "promise" to send His Son, which He "announced" before.
"Which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to flesh" (Rom. 1:2-3), New American Standard Bible.
"Which He announced before through His prophets in holy writings-concerning His Son, (who is come of the seed of David according to the flesh. (Rom. 1:2-3), Young's Liberal Translation.      Moreover, Ryrie Study Bible explains that logos, the Greek equivalent of the terms "Word" in John 1:1, 14 means a "thought or concept" (p. 1599). This term-promise, announcement, thought, concept-refers to things that are abstract, not yet concrete, or not yet "made flesh". This is similar to a blueprint for a house, which is only a plan not yet constructed material house. Clearly, then, the term "Word" in John 1:1, 14 is not Christ Himself but the "foreknowledge" or plan of God concerning Christ.
"Foreknown, indeed, before the foundation of the world, he has been manifested in the last times for you sakes." (I Peter 1:20, Confraternity Version).
This pronouncement of Apostle Peter that Christ was "foreknown before the foundation of the world" explain the statement in the Gospel according to John, "In the beginning was the "Word". Hence, what was there in the beginning was not Christ Himself but God's "Word" or foreknowledge of Him. "Foreknowledge" is defined by the dictionary as "knowledge of things before it happens or exist".  (Webster New Unabridged Dictionary, p. 717). If Christ had already been existing before the foundation of the world, then there would not be any need to "foreknow" Him. Therefore, the fact that Christ was foreknown before the foundation of the world dispproved His so called pre-existence.
What does the clause "And the Word become flesh" mean then? The "Word" which was only a thought or plan in the beginning was fulfilled when Mary gave birth to Jesus (Gal. 4:4) who is "truly human" (I Tim. 2:5, Contemporary English Version) or indeed "flesh" (Gen. 6:3). We should not forget that it was the "Word" which became flesh and not God Himself. John 1:1, 14 therefore does not in any way teaches that God became man or that Christ is God incarnate.
So why then did Apostle John state  in John 1:1 that "the Word was God"? It is because God is almighty or powerful (Gen. 35:11), and so are His words (Luke 1:37). Thus, "the Word was God" indeed, but not in the sense that  the "Word" is another divine being aside from God, but that it possesses the qualities and attributes of God. In John 1:1 the word "God" in the clause "the Word was God" is used not as a noun but as an adjective. That is why in other renditions of the Bible, such as Moffat and Godspeed, John 1:1 states: The Word was divine."

THE HOLY ROSARY

Praying the rosary and novena is a practice of a Catholic devotee, done with great love and sincerity. However, if we consider this religious practice it shows that rosary is indeed repetitious, against God's will and thus contrary to the statement of Matthew 6:7 "And when you pray, do not use in vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words."(New King James Version). To defy Christ's admonition against repetitious prayers is not only unbiblical-it is choosing to be an enemy of Christ. Repetitious reciting of prayers, says Christ in the same verse is the way pagan pray. Apostle Paul states in Ephesians 4:17-18 that Christians must "give up living as pagans do with their futile notions" (Revised English Version).
Thus, any praying in the same way as what pagans are doing contradicts Christ's admonition on how to pray properly.
"... the old pagans Rome ...before the Roman Catholic Church came into existence, constantly used beads in reciting their many prayers ..."(Roman Catholics in the Light of the Scriptures, p. 137)
"The practice of using beads, etc., as a help to memory in reciting a set number of prayers is not distinctively Christian ..." (A Catholic Dictionary, p.717)
Proponents explain that rosary beads have been very much in fashion before and up to now that is why they are universally found. They are not the sole or exclusive property of the pagans and conclude that the Rosary "can not be branded as such." The fact, however, that there is no mention of it being commanded by Christ and the Apostles or used by the early Christians, and not even by the people of God in the Old Testament indicates that the Rosary was adopted by the Catholic Church not from the Holy Scriptures. As they themselves know, history proves that the Rosary had long been widespread among pagans even before the existence of the Roman Church.
They expounded that aside from the recitation of the vocal prayers, the Rosary includes meditation on the "mysteries" and putting into practice what is meditated upon and expressed in vocal prayers. Then they concludes that "the Holy Rosary is biblically based." Meditating on important events in the life of Jesus and other virtuous servants of God living it out in the daily life are indeed noble activities, but these activities can be done without ritually reciting memorized prayers while using beads which the pagan also use. God's people in the Bible practiced meditation and were prayerful, but none of them used vain repetitious or rosary beads in prayers.
Moreover, at least two of their so-called "mysteries involved in praying the Rosary are obviously not warranted by the Holy Scriptures. In announcing the "Fourth mystery-the Assumption of our Lady" in their so called "Glorious Mysteries," they proclaim:
"We recall how Jesus has taken His Mother to heaven with body and soul as a generous reward for her devoted love to Him while on earth." (How to Say the Rosary, p. 22).
But nowhere in the Bible can we find that "Jesus has taken His Mother to heaven with body and soul." What the Bible teaches is that the dead are in the grave (Ps. 88:5, New King James Version), including those who are holy (Ps. 86:2; Acts 2:29, 34), and that the "soul cling to the dust" when a person dies (Ps. 119:25,New King James Version). Those who are worthy of salvation will enter the kingdom of heaven on the Second Advent of Christ (Mt. 25:31-34) or Judgment Day (Jude 1:14-15).
"We recall how Mary enter[ed] heaven and greeted by the jubilation of angels and saints. Jesus sets upon her head the crown as Heaven's Queen." (How to Say the Rosary, p. 23).
Regarding the "Glorious Mysteries," Pope John Paul II himself in His Apostolic Letter "The Rosary of Virgin Mary" states:
"In the Ascension, Christ was raised in glory to the right hand of the Father, while Mary herself would be raised to the same glory in Assumption, enjoying beforehand, by a unique privilege, the destiny reserved for all the just at the resurrection of the dead. Crowned in glory-as she appears in the last glorious mystery-Mary shines forth as Queens of the Angels and Saint..."(p.16-Pastoral letter provided).
Again, these teachings are without biblical basis. Even the Pope can not read from the Holy Scriptures that Mary was 'crowned in glory - as Queen of the Angels and Saints" and that "Jesus sets upon her head the crown as Heaven's Queen.? As a matter of fact, no less than the Catholic priests and authorities testify to the fact that Mary's "Assumption" or being "taken ... to heaven with body and soul" is not found in the Holy Scriptures:
"There is no statement of the Assumption in the Holy Scriptures: writings of the first five centuries, we found them void of any historical data to certify the fact of the Assumption." (God the Redeemer by Charles G. Herzog, S.J.., p.98)
"There is no explicit reference to the assumption in the Bible, yet the Pope insist in the decree of promulgation that the Scriptures are the ultimate foundation of this truth." (New Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. I, 1967, p. 972).
No doubt, the Rosary can be prayed with the best human intentions, but this doesn't change the biblical truth that it is not the will of God and it is of pagan origin. Neither the prophets nor Christ, nor the Apostles taught it and therefore, the Rosary is a prayer taught as a commandment of men, who have not been commissioned by God to teach his words.
As to prayers made to God by people who teach and obey commandments of men, Christ quoted these words from God:
"But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandment of men." (Mt. 15:9, King James Version).
We cannot blame those who further conclude that "such practices (i.e.the praying of rosary, novena, etc.) are forms of enslaving ourselves into something we do not really need in our lives in the first place."
     However, though we agree on the rights that freedom is one of the God's great gifts to man, the Bible nevertheless teaches that one is free to serve Him in any manner he chooses, if he wants his service to be worthy and acceptable before Him. In fact, God Himself declared that there are forms of service or worship rendered to Him that are in vain;
"But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men." (Matt. 15:9, American Standard Version).
"(Referring to things which all perish as they are used), according to human precepts and doctrines? These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting rigor of devotion and self-abasement and severity to the body, but they are no value in checking the indulgence of the flesh." (Col. 2:22-23, Revised Standard Version).
What must guide one's freedom in serving God is no other than His commandments or statutes (Deut. 30:15-16). After all, what really makes us free is the truth or the words of God written in the Holy Scriptures (Jn 8:32; 17:17, II Tim. 3:15-17)
Therefore, while there's still time, put away the commandments of men, and let us learn to accept the truth no matter how painful it maybe. The truth will set us free.

A reaction to “Holy Rosary”

Reaction:

I, too, grew up in a closely-knit, Catholic indoctrinated environment following what my brother-in-law (who used to be a deacon but did not take his priesthood vows) says that we should adhere to the Catholic dogma. I grew up in an environment of daily rosaries every month of October, novenas at St. Anthony de Padua and Quiapo Churches, doing the stations of the cross by going to various churches we can go to every Holy Week which would turn out to be a family excursion in the end, and so many practices we Catholics devote ourselves to wherever and whenever there is a holy occasion. My mother led us into these practices and, frankly, I enjoyed them! But my father was not that devoted.
Dwelling on the issue of praying the rosary, I could recite it in basically four languages, as my mother, mother-in-law, and other members of my family do, including Latin. Allow me to cite my personal experience and give my personal comments.
Personally, I never learned to appreciate the rosary, along with the other devotions we Catholics do, in order to seek forgiveness from the Lord and atonement for our sins or even simply to seek peace within ourselves. I always wondered in amazement how my mother, along with the other members of my family, could repetitiously utter such words. We never prayed in detail for whatever problems we might be having at that particular time and place. Hence, wherever we go, we say the same prayer with all devotion but in the end, it becomes embarrassingly, unavoidably boring.
In the beginning, I thought that I might be committing blasphemy, since I’m a Catholic and so are my forefathers. It makes you wonder, “Is there life beyond these things!” Whenever I’m not with my relatives, I would pray to God in my own way.
When I went to college, being less scared, I decided that I would simply go to church every Sunday without any devotion to other Catholic practices. Of course my mother didn’t approve of this at first, but what could she do? I was using my scholarship as a reason. It went on like this until this day. Now, with both my parents dead, I’m glad that no one bugs me to join same activities that I’ve been doing in my childhood.
As I progressed in life after graduation, some passages in the Bible have somehow given me the light on the questions that have been in my mind since I was a little boy.
In 1999, I met this Italian priest, Fr. Marco Brioschi, PIME. He has become both very good friend and confidant, although we started out as the worst of enemies-what a strange way to have a friend. He showed me “the real essence of being a good Christian” without going through all the traditional Catholic activities. He made me feel relieved that I really don’t have to feel guilty for not practicing the same as what my forefathers did, as those practices are not only obsolete but, from his very own words, are not the true teachings of the Church and are not embedded in the very teachings of Christ.
As I take it, man by nature is lazy. It maybe possible that these practices, which are equally visible in other religions, were made so that they wouldn’t have to invent so many words during prayer. I’ve seen rosary-like beads in Saudi Arabia, China and Taiwan wrapped around the neck or waist of monks, and in many other places I’ve been to. Then again, freedom, God’s greatest gift to man, as my dear old friend Fr. Marco would say, is what Jesus is basically trying to tell each and everyone of us. That is why again, personally, such practices (i.e. praying the rosary, novenas, etc.) are forms of enslaving ourselves into something we do not really need in our lives in the first place.
I wouldn’t go so much into being a well-rounded religious man or academician quoting passages from the Bible or any other textbooks. I am simply a layman who wants to live a simple life having the religious freedom to communicate with my God in my own way. I cannot say that I am ignorant or knowledgeable of my own religion. I am simply sharing my thoughts as a born Catholic, views that I gathered from a priest, and what I really want to with the rest of my life. I do not write this to say that I despise the Catholic religious practices, nor concur what other Christian denominations says against them. I simply want to express my thoughts as they are-practice my religion with freedom and not being enslaved with traditional practices such as what the editor mentions, “is not even mentioned in the Holy Scriptures.”

Thank you for sharing with us your thoughts about Catholic practices, particularly the rosary and the novenas, which once became part of your life being a born Catholic.
It is remarkable that even a Catholic priest who is your friend admits that Catholic practices neither are the true teachings of the Church nor are they embedded in the very teachings of Christ, hence are not needed in order to be a good Christian. We can not blame you for further concluding that “such practices (i.e. the praying of the rosary, novenas, etc.) are forms of enslaving ourselves into something we do not really need in our lives in the first place.”
However, though we agree with you that freedom is one of the God’s great gifts to man, the Bible nevertheless teaches that one is free to serve Him in any manner he chooses, if he wants his service to be worthy and acceptable before Him. In fact, God Himself declares that there are forms of service or worship rendered to Him that are in vain:
“But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men.” (Matt. 15:9, American Standard Version)
“(Referring to things which all perish as they are used), according to human precepts and doctrines? These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting rigor of devotion and self-abasement and severity to the body, but they are no value in checking the indulgence of the flesh.” (Col. 2:22-23, Revised Standard Version)
What must guide one’s freedom is serving God is no other than His commandments or statutes (Deut. 30:15-16).  After all, what really makes us truly free is the truth or the words of God written in the Holy Scriptures (Joh 8:32; 17:17; IITim. 3:15-17).
