Jesus, a spirit?
I
totally disagree with the doctrine that Jesus Christ is a man. Although there
are some verses in the Bible that says He is man, His true nature is spirit,
just like His Father who is spirit.
The Lord Jesus Christ is not a
spirit. He Himself explicitly said this when He appeared before His disciples
after His resurrection. Note carefully these passages:
“And while they were telling these
things, He Himself stood in their midst. But they were startled and frightened
and thought that they were seeing a spirit. And He said to them, ‘Why are you
troubled, and why do doubts arise in your heart? See My hands and My feet, that
it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as
you see that I have’.” (Lk. 24:36-39, New
American Standard Bible)
A spirit does not have flesh and
bones. Christ has flesh and bones, as He Himself declared. Therefore, He is not
spirit. To believe that Christ is spirit in nature is to go against what He
Himself taught.
Even when Christ has ascended to
heaven, He remains a man. The Bible attests to this truth:
“Let your hand be upon the man of
Your right hand, upon the son of man whom You made strong for yourself.” (Ps.
80:17, New King James Version.)
The man being referred to here is
none other than Christ Himself:
“Since, then, you have been raised
with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the
right hand of God.” (Col.
3:1, New International Version)
When Jesus ascended to heaven, the
apostle continued to uphold and teach the truth that He is man attested by God
through miracles, wonders and signs:
“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of
Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which
God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know.” (Acts 2:22, New King James Version)
Apostle Paul taught that Christ, who
is man, is the Mediator between God and men:
“For there is one God and one
Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.” (I Tim. 2:5, Ibid.)
Above all, it was the Lord Jesus
Himself who testified that He is man:
“But now you seek Me, a Man who has told you the truth
which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.” (New King James Version)
These Biblical facts clearly prove the true nature of
Christ. Nowhere in the Holy Scriptures can we read that He is or ever was
spirit in nature. He is man in state of being, and this scriptural truth is
what the Church of Christ firmly holds.
